Theory & History of Design
This Graphic Design course introduces students to the ideologies and elements of art and design as illustrated throughout history. Students have the opportunity to study sociological, political, religious, aesthetic, and cultural issues related to the evolution of art and design while working on design projects that help to demonstrate the theories involved.
Web Design I
This Graphic Design class explores professional web design principles and techniques using web design software and hand coding. Students have the opportunity to explore various features of web design, including formatting text; inserting graphics, video, audio, and animation; creating tables, frames, forms, and hyperlinks; and standardizing page layouts using cascading style sheets. Students have the opportunity to work on independent projects that develop their technical and design skills.
Digital Prepress I
Methods used to successfully transfer images from the computer to printed and electronic media are explored in depth. This is a process-based Graphic Design course that concentrates on the numerous technical design choices that need to be made to produce well-crafted page layouts.
Digital Imaging
This Graphic Design class offers students an introduction to digital image editing as used in the graphic design industry. Software, terminology and photo manipulation techniques are taught through the assignment of computer design projects for both print and Web layout.
Desktop Publishing II
This Graphic Design class continues to explore properties of electronic publication, including printing options, file conversion and distribution procedures, font management, master pages and templates, and creative page layout techniques. A professional design studio environment is emulated during the completion of individual and group projects.
