Fashion Design and Merchandising Classes

Fashion Marketing & Consumer Behaviors
This Fashion Design and Merchandising course examines the planning, pricing, promotion, and distribution of products and services within the fashion industry, and discusses how consumer motives, preferences, and attitudes contribute to marketing decisions. Psychological, social, ethical, and financial factors that affect the marketplace are examined through case analyses. Students are expected to research marketing plans, products and services, target markets, direct mail and telemarketing tactics, and advertising principles involved in the development of production strategies and promotional processes.
Fashion Trend Analysis
In this Fashion Design and Merchandising course, students can learn how to research and analyze fashion trends for use in forecasting, planning, developing, and promoting clothing lines. Students are expected to examine theories, cycles, styles, sales, media sources, societal influences, and consumer research related to forecasting processes.
Fashion Design I
In this Fashion Design and Merchandising class, students have the opportunity to develop a clothing line in response to current fashion design trends and market needs. Students are expected to review the role of the designer in the apparel industry, and research various influences and styles in the development of original clothing ideas.
Computer Graphics for Fashion Design
Students enrolled in this Fashion Design and Merchandising course have the opportunity to learn the basics of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop as they apply to Fashion Design. Focus is on computer needs for the fashion industry and includes scanning and manipulation of line drawing, fabric and other images.
Fashion Textile & Apparel Analysis
This Fashion Design and Merchandising class is an introduction to textiles and the textile industry, with a focus on terminology, fiber properties, yarns, and fabric characteristics. Emphasis is on the selection, quality, performance, use, and care of specific textiles. Students have the opportunity to analyze the quality of design, materials, and construction techniques used in commercially produced textiles, apparel, and accessories. Manufacturing processes, quality and sizing standards, and pricing are compared in relation to the target customer in various markets.
